Scrin.io takes screenshots randomly. The frequency depends on the selected plan:
Free plan: 3 screenshots per hour;
Standard plan: 6 screenshots per hour;
Professional plan: 30 screenshots per hour.
It’s important to note that the screenshot rate cannot be specified for being taken at random intervals to avoid employees using 10 or 20 free minutes between screenshots.
How to change the screenshot frequency
To do so, access the Settings page:
In the Screenshots settings, you can choose to take or not screenshots and the amount per hour. If you choose not to take screenshots, you can use the app only for time-tracking.
.
Alternatively, managers can set individual settings for each employee by selecting the option next to their names. If enabled, the individual setting will be used instead of the team setting:
Screenshot notifications
every time a screenshot is taken, the user gets a small notification near the system tray:
You can turn them off through the settings or else use individual settings as well:
We recommend leaving this setting on as it allows users to feel more in control of the time tracking (since they know when a screenshot was taken), but it also serves as a reminder of the task and the project they are working on.
Screenshots and time not displayed on the web
This can happen when a user tracks time under the option ‘Tracking for myself’ in the downloaded app. To solve this, click ‘Tracking for myself’ in the app and select a company in the drop-down menu.
Make sure that you have the same company selected on the web:
Alternatively, the issue can happen when you change your account password. In this case, just sign out and sign in again to the app.

Black screenshots on Linux
Scrin.io uses a standard API system to take screenshots. 3rd party software/drivers that alter this API or add malfunctioning hooks to the system can be why you only see black screenshots. On Linux, this can happen according to the graphics you’re using. If you’re using Wayland, please try to switch to X11.
Background screenshots on Mac
This issue is related to the screen recording settings on your computer. Please try following the steps below to make the software capture your screen:
Select System Preferences from the Apple menu;
Click the Security & Privacy icon;
Click the Privacy tab at the top;
In the column on the left, click on Screen Recording to manage app permissions.
